On Monday 25th February the Fire team, along with the Irish Hereford Prime and its ambassador John Hayes, headed off to Dungarvan Mart in Co. Waterford to buy Ryan Tubridy’s Hereford bull calf ‘Tubridy’ for charity.

The heated auction attended by over 700 people and hosted by Ryan himself, was broadcasted live on RTE 2fm. Bidding on our behalf was farmer and rugby star John Hayes, the official ambassador for Irish Hereford Prime who are Fire’s exclusive beef supplier. John successfully bought the celebrity calf for Fire with the winning bid of €5,500. As the proud owners of the three week old bull calf ‘Tubridy’, we are rechristening him Tubridy Fire!

The €5,500 paid for Tubridy Fire will go directly to the Youghal Cancer Support Group. Little Tubridy Fire will be raised by Irish Hereford Prime and Pallas food before being sold in a bid to raise even more money for charity.

Speaking after the auction, Padraic O’Kane of Fire Restaurant said “Our plan is that John Hayes and ourselves at Fire will rear the calf for the next two years.  ‘Tubridy Fire’ will be making celebrity appearances throughout the year including being the guest of honour at the launch of our new bar in September this year. Tubridy Fire has gained cult status since his very first steps and we are delighted to be supporting such a worthy charity.”

Ryan Tubridy said “Obviously, I’m thrilled to be a dad again. Looking at him, young Tubridy is the cut of his old man. All the family features are there; long face, notable ears and a constant sound coming from his large mouth.”
